What regulations need to be met?

ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Approved Document L, Conservation of Fuel and Power is the building regulation in England that sets the standard for the energy performance of new and existing buildings. This is evaluated by comparing calculations of the performance of the ‘actual dwelling’ against calculations of the performance of a theoretical dwelling called the ‘notional dwelling’.

SECURITY

Approved Document Q of Building Regulations states that easily accessible windows and doors fitted to new dwellings in England, as well as properties being converted for residential use, must be secure. To qualify as being secure, windows and doors must comply with PAS24 or an equivalent security standard, demonstrating they are proven to resist burglary attack.
